How to Take Care of a Portable Boat
By Dorothy Miller
Wondering how to take care of a portable boat?
Portable boats are a lot easier to store than traditional boats, but there are some things that you need to do in order to keep your portable boat in great shape and ready to be inflated and go out on the water again after a season of sitting inside. Since you don't need as much storage space for a portable boat as you do for a traditional boat some people leave their portable boats in the yard or unprotected in the garage during the off season but that's not a great way to take care of your portable boat. Here are some tips that you can use to keep your portable boat in ship shape when you're not using it:
Wash it off before it goes into storage. If you use the boat in saltwater or if you use it in lakes or rivers where there is a lot of pollution or if you beach it on a sandy or rocky beach when you're using it then you should always give your portable boat a thorough scrub at the end of the season. If you don't the pollution, salt, and sand could start to eat away at the seams of the boat or the material of the boat causing weak seams or leaks that might make the boat unable to be used next season.
Here are more ways to help you understand how to take care of a portable boat:
Deflate the boat completely - It's important to get all the air out of the portable boat before you stick it into storage. Not only because it will take up less storage space when it's fully deflated but also because it could become a tempting nest for critters in the garage if it's not fully deflated when you put it away and any critter that has sharp claws could easily puncture the boat.
Make sure it's not too cold or too hot where you store the boat - Extreme temperatures can really cause the materials that a portable boat is made from to deteriorate, especially over time. So don't put the boat next to the furnace or in the unheated garage. Choose a place that is cool but doesn't have extreme temperatures if you want your boat to be ready to go next season.

Hints On water jet boat
Jet boats are highly maneuverable, and many can, from full speed, be reversed and brought to a stop within little more than their own length, in a maneuver known as a "crash stop". The well known Hamilton turn or "jet spin" is a high speed manoevre where the boat is turned sharply then the engine throttle is cut causing the boat's stern to lift and spin quickly around with a large spray of water.

Most of day sailors (or even weekend sailors) will never really need navigational skills in order to be able to sail where they want. They will probably see the place right over the bow. People who sail further in the oceans, seas, and even on the Great Lakes of North America will - in turn - not get far without even the most elementary knowledge of how to find themselves on the charts, and where to sail next. As a matter of fact, they will sail far, very far - but from the course leading them to their port of destination.

Make sure you are seen on the water. Even in bright, calm conditions a kayak can be nearly invisible. It is especially difficult for power-driven vessel and large vessel operators riding high in the water to see kayaks. Choose bright colours such as red, yellow or orange for your flotation device and kayak. Also, remember to keep signalling devices within hands reach in case of emergency.
